A Medical Coding Apprenticeship Helped Xu Zhou Find Career Success
Xu Zhou wanted a job that challenged and fulfilled her. She worked as a nursing assistant to help support her family. Then she heard about Job Forward (formerly IAA at Vermont HITEC), which helps match individuals and employers through paid apprenticeships.
Xu enrolled in a Job Forward apprenticeship, where she learned medical coding skills through on-the-job training. She’s now a senior medical coder for the UVM Medical Center’s Health Information Management department.
“Medical coding was so new to me at the time, and I had zero background in the medical field,” she says. “But I enjoyed taking classes and liked the challenge.”
Job Forward offers apprenticeship programs in healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing, and business services.
